Adios Miami

Ahh, ok final post from the Miami Herald.  Although my internship ended a few weeks ago, i still wanted to take a second to talk about my experiences for the newspaper, along with sharing some photos.  It was a journey, no doubt.   The cross country road trip, living in a brand new and altogether unique state, the experiences of shooting for a newspaper and the on demand creativity, the pressures of doing well and the remorse of doing poorly.  The standard i had to perform at was higher than i could have anticipated, with Pulitzer prize winning members on staff, i had the bar set quite high. In the end, I gained the confidence of my editors to handle any situation, some photos im proud of, and even got a few front pages out of it all too.  I had a great time learning from some of the best photographers in our country, and for that I am forever grateful.

Heat vs Bulls

Got to shoot a Heat game recently, vs the Bulls.  Few notes: these guys are HUGE, and they move fastt.  They curse a lot.  So do the fans who sit at the sidelines.  Lebron in a smiler, and plays harder than anyone on the court.  The ball came to me and i passed it back to a player, wheres my 6th man award?

halfway update

ok bout time i do a update on whats been going on, i mean all my fans must be dying!

so shooting for a newspaper is hard, shooting for the Miami Herald is damn near impossible.  Highest standards = lots of bad photos = lots of crits = hopefully some good photos.

anyway, not much to write…i mean ive shot a ton, met a ton of people, been having a pretty good time all around, trying not to stress too much.

photos span from the roadtrip here, up until tonight shooting the Sony Ericsson Tennis tourney.  Honestly, i feel like i’ve taken maybe a one great shot, everything else has been standard or sub-par.

warning, there is nudity in a few photos.

dos dias

2 days until  I head out to Miami.  to say im nervous is actually an overstatement.  well i will be working side by side  with Pulitzer prize winners, POYi winners and a well recognized staff within the photography community…ok im nervous.  excited though, sincerely excited that im given this opportunity. as long as i  dont screw it up.

Skatepark with a Leica

some shots with the M8 at the skatepark today.  Met this really nice Belgian lady who came with her granddaughter to the skatepark.  Poor little girls mom died when she was a few years old and she’s raising her with the father who is working 60+ hours as a nurse.  The little girl looooves to skateboard though, and was begging her grandma to let her stay “for just 5 more minutes!”

the last shot demonstrates what happens when you take your best photo of the day, but the battery dies while rendering the shot.  damn you cheap batteriessss

3 things

1. Shot my last wedding of 2011.  4 years strongg baby.

Los Angeles wedding

Shot a great wedding with photographer extraordinaire, Conrad Lim a few weeks ago in LA.  Lovely fun and super enegetic couple with tons of personality.  Decided to try a new editing route with this set.  dont know how i feel about it, let alone how good i am, but any effort is a good one…but after viewing it a few times, its kinda growing on me.
