Who am I?
Hi, thanks for checking out my work. To make this not feel like a LinkedIn bio, i'll just give you a quick rundown. My name is Deeba Yavrom and I am a photographer. I just finished grad school studying International Economics (i'm a nerd), and even more recently got married. I have taken photos all around the world and just shot my 100th wedding. I really love it. Its a sweet gig, all joy and smiles all day long.
I have a very simple approach to photography, take photos of all the little moments. The laughs, the quirks, the people, the feelings, the atmosphere, and the intangibles that only you experienced. Weddings FLY by, and I want to give you a set of photos that remind you how you felt that day. If I did that, I consider myself successful.
What you won't find here are lots of posed photos. Although I do take them, posed photos comprise only a small portion of a wedding. What I love is the rest of the day, telling you how your day went through excellent photographs.
I take a very strong documentary approach, loving those candid and natural photos.
If you like the sound of all this, great! tell me about your wedding.
Where are you located?
I am based in the Washington DC, having previously shot weddings for many years in Northern California. As it stands, I am available anywhere you are and would be happy to travel as far and wide as possible for your wedding.
In a world where everyone who is everyone is a photographer, what makes you different?
I have spent the past 8 years photographing weddings, 4 of those working as a newspaper and documentary photographer all over the US and South East Asia. I have been published in nearly every national newspaper. I love reportage photography and naturally bring that style into my weddings. On my website you wont see a ton of posed photos, sure there are some, but my photogrpahy is aimed more at capturing moments as they happen, naturally.
Tell me more about your style?
I am a storyteller, and take photos that tell those stories. Ones where the more you look, the more you find and discover, and the more you enjoy. I like to walk around your wedding and document it as it is. Each wedding has its own distinct style and I strive to capture your day as exactly how you felt it. Ok, so I guess you could call me a photojournalist, but who likes labels?
Do you use film or digital?
I mix it up, but focus heavily on digital. I use professional Canon SLR and Leica rangefinder systems, matched with a variety lenses and strobes.
Will you take group and family pictures?
Of course. There are often three or more generations of family at a wedding and all of your favorite people in the world are in the same place at the same time. It would be a shame not to devote at least some time for formals.
Can we take pictures together before the ceremony?
Who exactly shoots our wedding?
Everything is done by me. From our consultation to the delivery of your photos, I am there every step of the way
How many pictures do you typically take during a wedding.
You should expect to recieve around 700-800 photos for a 6hr wedding. I like to deliver more photos because you should have the selection, not me.
How many weddings have you photographed?
Lets just say I memorized the lyrics to "Love Shack".
What type of albums do you offer?
I offer a variety of custom coffee table albums. Please ask me for more details.
How soon after the wedding can we see our wedding images?
After a wedding I take about 6-8 weeks for the editing process. I will send you a DVD of those pictures and host them online for you and your friends and family to see.
